On the 2nd of December 2007
our Association got together for a family gathering to show unification
and openess to other approaches to Wing Chun.
The seminar was four hours long with the members split into four
groups spending one hour with each instructor in rotation.
Our Association had the delight and pleasure of Sifu Mark
of Hobbs showing us his approach from Master Lun Gai's
lineage. His approach wetted our appetite to know more from his
approach and experiences on the subject of structure.
From our own family of teachers we had Sifu Andy Chrysostomou
sharing his experiences in Chi Sau and combinations. His excitement
and energy was most infectious to the groups he taught. Many not
so experienced members were saying that they just can't wait to
get to Chi Sau level. Sifu Paul Blissett showed
us many direct approaches to self defence using Wing Chun theories.
Being an ex policeman Sifu Paul had a very good idea of what would
really worked on the streets. Sifu Kwok showed
our members technical footwork, which invloved a mixture of stability
in using the 'anchorage' of the leg, but yet still keeping the
maneuverability of footwork. In connection with footwork, Sifu
Kwok showed us how to maximise power from the rotation of the
hips.

Hong Kong November
2007
On the 4th of November 2007
a party of 5 of us departed from Gatwick airport bound for Hong
Kong. The aim of this trip was to fit in as much training and
sight seeing as possible. For two of the group, Attila and David,
it was their 1st time in Hong Kong. Our Association sponsored
part of Attila’s trip after his hard work in attendance
and contribution to the club.
On arrival the next day and having showered and eaten, they
quickly made their way to Shatin where Master Ip Chun holds
one of his classes training from 8pm to 10:30pm.
This trip also saw Sifu Kwok spending the best part of a day
in China teaching two groups of security team in a 5* hotel.
Unfortunately due to security reasons no photos were allowed.
Sifu Kwok also spent an evening teaching in the Hong Kong University,
which is usually headed by Sifu Patrick Leung and Sifu Raymond
Lo. The seminar was well received as the subject was about the
fundamentals of Wing Chun and also some training differences
we have here in the UK.
On the same evening Sifu Darren Titmas was also invited to Sifu
Ho’s class where he demonstrated the Biu Tze Form and
crossed hands with all the seniors of that class.
The two weeks passed very quickly with our reputation intact.
‘This trip has confirmed my training in this Association
as being the right path’ Attila Toth.

Emma Francis for preparing all the food for the
seminar and your contribution in handling some of the administration.
Ben Chan for all his promotional work of our
Association, and liason with the Chinese Community.
Paul Blissett for his hard work and many personal
sacrifices to keep the clubs in Suffolk as strong as it is today.
The Lion Dance Team for their great energy and
spirit when they are out promoting the Association, cultural awareness,
and at being great ambassadors
All members of past and present who have given
their support and time.
Thank You All and Happy New Year!

2nd World Wing
Chun Conference
The 2nd World Wing Chun Conference was
attended by some of the most elite Wing Chun representatives.
Master Chu Shong Tin even came out of his retirement to demonstrate
in front of the 700 strong audience on his ability to utilse the
hip energy to move his much younger opponent from one position
to another. His honourable mannersim and undoubted enjoyment of
Wing Chun showed through and this has become encouragement to
many of us. Another most impressive demonstration was performed
by a Russian Representative on the use of the Wing Chun Pole.
His sharpness, control, and concentration was most definitely
world class. Mixed in with demonstrations were seminars given
freely by Sifus such as Patrick Leung (Soft Energy), Samuel Kwok
(Wooden Dummy), Benny Meng (Relationship between Shaolin and Wing
Chun), and many many more.
Please look out for the DVD to come out
soon.

New Promotional Media
Our Association is enjoying a succes with
the First Form DVD that many have requested further information
about us and if we are making further DVD's on other topics on
'Forms'
At the moment we are planning for a promotional video, which will
be available free to all who requests it. This video is now being
made, but we as yet do not know when it will be available. However,
just to wet your appetite here are 3 scenes from Ashley Rowan
(3½ years experience on time of filming) and Darren Titmas

in order so that you do not cause lasting damage to yourself.
We would like to advise all who look at these clips not to try
this without proper supervision. |

It was our Associations pleasure to have
taken part in the Southend Carnival together with John Grooms

their bright colours and energy. It made our team proud that many
came forward to say that they have really the Lion Dance and that
their children absolutely loved it, especial when the Lion tried
to eat them!!!!
The finale was at the Pearl Dragon Restaurant where they offered
the lucky green, a symbol of health and prosperity, and the Lion
chewed this green and spread the luck to all the bystanders. |

DVD reviewed by
Combat Magazine
A member brought in a copy
of Combat Magazine to class today and showed us that they have
reviewed our Siu Nim Tau DVD. This is what they said:
What's it about?
As the title suggests, this is a formas
and applications DVD relating to Wing Chun's first form, Siu Nim
Tau, 'little idea' as put forward by Sifu Cheung, from the Ip
Chun lineage, broken down into three distinct sections for the
viewer.
What's good about it?
Production values are good, a good range
of viewpoints and angles are used and Sifu Kwok Cheung gives the
proceedings a 'seminar' style before getting into the nitty gritty
of demonstrating the form, broken down and into three digestable
sections.
What's bad about it?
In terms of presentation, production value
and content the DVD is very effective. My only concern is the
market place, as Wing Chun releases are frequent and familiarity
may breed contempt.
Conclusion:
In terms of packaging and content this is
a solid, proffesional release but, as I have mentioned before,
Wing Chun is general and Siu Nim Tau in particular, does not lend
itself to dynamic presentation, so much will depend on how curious
the potential buyer is to see Sifu Cheung's interpretation. With
the large number of Wing Chun DVD's on the market at the moment,
familiarity could breed contempt. |

Patrick Leung and Ho Po Kai
Sunday 19th June
in Southend Venue
Those who know Patrick
and Ho from their visits to Hong Kong will know of their experience
and specialty. Patrick is a true 'Soft Energy' expert and Mr Ho
as we call him is a most talented Chi Sau expert.
20/06/05
This seminar was a most exhilerating day
for all participants who had the opportunity of looking into another
level of Wing Chun understanding from Sifu Ho and Sifu Leung.
The seminar started with Sifu Ho giving us an insight into the
3 seperate sections of Siu Nim Tau. He was kind enough to say
that time was short and that he will only point out the major
principles in each section.
The second half of the seminar was introduced by Sifu Leung on
the subject of soft energy application and how soft does not necessarily
mean weak. Many participants who were much bigger than him had
a wonderful opportunity to feel his energy following the theory
of fluidity like water.
On the third section participants were offered the chance to cross
hands with both Sifus to feel the difference between them and
so understanding Wing Chun is not an art where it is duplicated
from person to person. They explained that both are Ip Chun students,
but both are very different in their approach. Their central core
is understood, which is the first half of learning and then the
next half must come from themselves.
Finally all participants were offered the chance to put forward
their questions.
Sifu Kwok was most happy to have hosted this seminar and welcomed
everyone who took part and followed the tradition of giving respect
by presenting each representative with a banner of the Association.

Lion
Dance at Multicultural Fair 19th June 2005
It was our honour to have
started this event with leading the Southend Mayor into the Fair
and then declaring it open.
On this day Sifu Patrick and Sifu Ho was with us to enjoy the
atmosphere.
A little bonus today that Tony Anthony (author of Taming the Tiger
and 3 times World Kung Fu Champion) approached Sifu Kwok and praised
the Lion Dance. Both Tony and Sifu Kwok will mean to keep in touch.
Unfortunately no photos were taken this time. |

New
Year get together for some advanced students.
Some of our advanced students
got together for the New Year ahead and discussed about last year
and what we can do to improve the following year. Some of the
subjects discussed was a monthly session only for the advanced
for extreme training, sparring, and also further understanding
of indepth knowledge of forms together with using the weapon forms.
Also one of the subjects was to interact with other Wing Chun
groups such as Sifu Shaun Rawcliffe (Midlands Wing Chun Kuen).
This year we aim to open two more branches. |
